4. Othering

Q1. Have you witnessed unequal treatment of people around you? Who is being treated differently? Why do you think people treat this person or this group of people differently?

I have witnessed the unequal treatment of people around me. He is my Form 5 classmate, I called him as Y. I always saw him stay alone at his corner seat because he has poor interpersonal relationships and homework is not good in the class. No one would like to talk to him and he only keeps silent and makes himself low sense of presence. One time, there is a girl called J, she is the first-class student next door to our class (we are second class). She said that her chair is lost. Therefore, she would like to come to “see” our class whether her chair is in our classroom or not. This causes me to feel like one of us is the thief and stolen her chair. Some more, Y was absent on that day. Then at my class, there is some guys are closer with J, so they ask her to take Y’s chair back to her seat. I saw her really take action to get Y’s chair, it means that Y’s is the chair’s thief. I know Y has no friends and so no one would like to help him although he was absent.

I couldn’t bear watching on this so I shouted on J to stop her. This is because I know they won’t return back the chair to Y after today. And no one will tell Y who has taken his chair when he is back to school on the next day. J heard what I said then she also feels guilty and goes back to her class. This treatment causes me to feel angry and sympathy on Y. J has looked down on Y so she doesn’t need to ask permission from Y and account that all people are standing with her.  They are treating Y differently than others like I vs. You or intelligent vs. unintelligent.

3.Intertextuality

1. Intertextuality is referring to the literal meaning. It influences the reader and adds layers of depth to a text, based on the reader's prior knowledge and understanding. It involves drawing upon ideology or a concept. Intertextuality always refers to the title, name of a book or an event and activity, which is a very simple text.

2. The evidence of intertextuality in these advertisements are the phrase of ''ABSOLUT ____''. To the drinkers or adults, they will know ABSOLUT is a brand of alcohol. ABSOLUT VODKA is the 3rd largest brand of alcoholic spirits in 126 countries. Based on these ads, the reader is asked to search and observe where is the Absolut bottle-shaped object and it can be found in the center and a title ''ABSOLUT _____'' at the bottom.

3. The message behind these 3 advertisements are different. The first ad is titled ''ABSOLUT AMSTERDAM'' and Absolut bottle-shaped is showed in between of the building, published in the year 1994. Amsterdam is the capital of Netherland, in United State. The ad is said that the citizen can get more cheaper price on purchasing one Absolut Vodka with only 15 bucks instead of 20 bucks from the retail price.

''ABSOLUT ETIQUETTE'' refer to the importance of correct and polite behaviour in society or the member of professional.  Tea etiquette is considered very important in Victoria England.  We can see the 2 forks with Absolut bottle-shaped in between. By using the forks and plate on the dining table to bring the sense of relaxation on tea-time and strengthens the foods connection of the country.

The last ad reveals that Bangkok's air market strategy. The form of Absolut bottle-shaped is using by clogging a lot of wooden long-tail boats at the Chao Phraya River. This ''BANGKOK'' ad has issued of Scanorama, the takeaway in-flight magazine of SAS-- Scandinavian Airlines. People are welcomed to find the best flight bargain from the United State to Scandinavian. This ad has used colourful and artful for the background to lead Thailand is a country with many different cultures and society.

2. Genre Analysis

Both infographics have in common concept of appeal to everyone to help or assistance stray animals. They  have the same communicative purposes which are informing the public, especially the pet lovers communities to help these homeless animals by adopting, donating or volunteer because based on both infographics there are many animals send into shelters or euthanized due to no habitats to be provided. The ideology assumptions are embedded in the text is human nowaday are selfish and carrying partial opinion in adopting an animal as a pet especially some specific animals are tougher to get adoption because of our different ethnic and religious education. They don’t even know about the actual facts which are having a pet brings benefits through our life.

So these two infographics bring a different way to capture readers’ attention. The first statement is using a simple white background, dashed-line to separate the sections, 3 main colours of fonts and graphics, and using san-serif font-family. The 2nd statement used more colours for background and white colour fonts to bring the sense of contrast, using a serif font for readability and grey colour grids to separate the paragraphs. The first statement will be less attractiveness to readers compare to the second statement. However, the first statement has highlighted the important keywords with bold-text like “Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet!” while the 2nd statement put a dog picture on top with pitiful face to gain sympathy and concern. Besides, it has shown more in details compared to the first statement. The communicative events are posts on newspaper full cover page, public place such as bus stations and billboards, advertises in social networking sites and all major media. To aim the public’s humanity on shows solicitude for these animals and take action immediately!

1. Poster message-Ideology

Based on the poster, that was a message to say is, the truth has been covered. Advanced technology brings more convincing to people. They like to read news from smartphone, tablets, desktop and many devices instead of the printed press. There were many fake information get it from the online social networking services such as Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr or LinkedIn and etc. These social networking sites allow people to share anythings such as pictures, posts, ideas and activities with their network. So the information from social networks was always not the true and it has contained some personal opinions for the post. It can be libellous news or slander others reputation.

Mass destruction of language is very powerful. If a person uses the derogatory word to damage a person's reputation in facebook's news. I am sure that the click rate is the highest in that month and all the whole will know about the news and begin to believe regardless of whether it is true or not. Human flesh searching or news make hot or criticize will all pointer to the actual innocent person. These can cause he/she fall into trouble and implicate their relatives. However, printed press is under control, all printing presses require a licence granted. So newspaper posts were true and more in details. Example of the news of MH370 incident. It is missing with 239 people on board, facebook keep on update with where was the flight crashed into the Indian Ocean, then suddenly unknown person got a picture of the aircraft wreckage found in somewhere, or some is about terrorist hijacking and blaming the captain was not responsible because he allows two pretties enter the cabin or more ridiculous thing was saying about our Prime Minister who attempt to achieve higher ballot by coercing the airplane.

Thus, social networking news is faster than newspaper but the printed press is pure news dominated while network news is focused on profits. As we know, reading newspaper is an accomplishment.
